It seemed a bit mysterious why Governor Palin's health records were such a secret, and only released on the eve of the election.
She was adamantly determined to keep those personal health records from advanced public scrutiny, most unusual stance for a candidate for such high office. What on earth was the lady hiding so grimly?
Could it be that, since the date of her first delivery is known and also the date of her marriage, being a public record, is also known . . . that her health records would reveal this first birth was not premature, but full term, and that it strongly indicated the conception occurred before her marriage?
And that is exactly what the medical record showed, that the birth of her first child was full "term," which means 9 months, plus or minus 2 weeks. Yet the lady gave birth only 8 months after her elopement marriage. Such marriages are often rushed, for pregnancy reasons, and that seems to have been the case here.
This certainly would have been damaging in the election for one who professes such fundamentalist views and such personal virtue as the Alaska governor. She, after all, has been an ardent promoter of premarital chastity and abstinence, and an equally ardent opponent of sex education.
Seems to make her a total hypocrite, no?

No one in the Evangelical community apparently gives a rat's behind about premarital pregnancy as long as the female doesn't have an abortion. See Red Sex Blue Sex in a recent issue of The New Yorker.
her records weren't fully released if i remember correctly- her doctor wrote a note saying that she was fit to serve. i think she has a few reasons not to want her records out there. first and last 'births'
If this is true, the Palins are to be lauded for having gotten married, and staying happily married for 20 years. That's a far better example than boffing an intern or sleeping with another woman behind the back of your cancer-stricken wife.
I want to hear the statistics, etc on her "Last" birth. Still seems fishy to me.
ritterbush,
Way to deliberately miss the point and/or change the subject.
And just when ARE you people going to get past The Clenis? It's never going to happen; he doesn't love you. Move ON, stone-in-hand.
Heh heh... It wasn't me who cast the first stone here.
Repubs sure do love them some Clenis – they keep bringing it up because in Retardo-land it's all they've got. Of course, the Clenis never promoted abstinence-only sex education or called condoms 'Baby-Killers'.
Reporters went to Sarah Palin's clinic where she had allegedly delivered the last baby and the clinic had no record of it; when asked about Bristol's records they wouldn't release them.
There's quite an extensive record of Palin's lies, though – Andrew Sullivan listed about twenty in the first two weeks after the RNC convention and since then the lies have just piled up.
It seems the first thing out of Palin's mouth is usually a lie and she hopes no one will check on it, then she just follows it up with more lies. That's why Repugs look up to her so much, her ability to lie so easily and so often makes her a 'hero' in their retarded, traitorous eyes.
There will come a time when Conservatism and Republicanism are seen as a mental illness. Mark my words.
ritterbush,
I agree. It is unforgivable that a man would fool around on his cancer stricken wife. Or serve divorce papers in the hospital to a cancer stricken wife (Newt Gingrich). Or leave a severely injured wife who had faithfully awaited your return from a POW camp for a young heiress (John McCain). Or humiliate a wife by soliciting gay sex in an airport bathroom stall (Larry Craig). Or have to apologize to the American people for hiring prostitutes (David Vitter). Or ...
There's plenty of bad behavior on both sides, but only side claims to have the corner on righteousness despite their clear pattern of corruption and moral failings. So kudos to the Palin's for their apparently strong marriage. That does not change the fact that they don't practice what they preach (abstinence didn't work out so well for their daughter). Until your side stops with the self-righteous hypocrisy, you will continue to lose with the American people.
She just keeps poppin' them out for the state check. You see, they're really just hillbilly white trash getting as many 'socialist' welfare checks as they can.
PERIOD!
Ritterbush, you have already been nailed. We cannot forget Sen. Vitter, Sen. McCain, Rep. Gingrich as well as leaders of the fundamentalist right, such as Haggard and Jim Baker.
Think before you start pointing fingers because there are many many more pointing back. Seriously.
Number of people killed by a BJ in the oval office? Zero
From the New Yorker article "Red Sex, Blue Sex":
But the reactions to it have exposed a cultural rift that mirrors America’s dominant political divide. Social liberals in the country’s “blue states” tend to support sex education and are not particularly troubled by the idea that many teen-agers have sex before marriage, but would regard a teen-age daughter’s pregnancy as devastating news. And the social conservatives in “red states” generally advocate abstinence-only education and denounce sex before marriage, but are relatively unruffled if a teen-ager becomes pregnant, as long as she doesn’t choose to have an abortion.
When you think about how the wingnuts view women's role in society vs the liberal view, this is really not that surprising.
The right-wing fundamentalists see women solely in the roles of wife and mother. If a teenage girl gets pregnant, in the wingnut view, this merely means she got the chronology mixed up.
By contrast, liberals believe in doing everything we can so that all children--sons and daughters--can achieve their full potential. If a teenager gets pregnant, it jeopardizes her chances of doing such things as attending college, starting a successful career, etc.
Let's assume you are right about the first birth. So... do you think that perhaps that experience actually helped to form or at least strengthen her stance on pre-marital sex?
Is it that surprising that someone who got screwed by premarital sex (no pun intended) would go on to try to prevent others from making the same mistake?

... or, for that matter, your car-accident-crippled and no longer attractive wife, right?
No argument here that there are examples of bad behavior on both sides. But does shooting the messenger on grounds of hypocrisy discredit the message? Of course not. There are higher moral standards we should all aspire to and promote.
In this alleged case, the Palins took responsibility, got married and have a wonderful family. That's why you won't see Evangelicals feeling disappointed by this story.
"only side claims to have the corner on righteousness despite their clear pattern of corruption and moral failings."
At least until this election, only one side even bothered to claim there was a standard of moral 'righteousness,' even if there were some hypocrites in their ranks. The other side seemed very uncomfortable with promoting any standard of 'righteousness,' and was equally corrupt.
I sincerely hope President Obama maintains the high standards by which he's conducted his campaign and home life.
"...do you think that perhaps that experience actually helped to form or at least strengthen her stance on pre-marital sex? "
Huh?
You mean like this?
"I would like to outlaw contraception...contraception is disgusting -- people using each other for pleasure." -Joseph Scheidler, Pro-Life Action League
Or this?
Much of the joy I felt after shooting the abortionist, and still feel today, is the joy of having freely obeyed Christ after long being enslaved to fearful obedience to men. The Lord had done great things through me."
- Paul Hill, after murdering an abortion provider and his bodyguard.
Or perhaps this?

stevie: Sorry, I thought you were talking about Sarah Palin. I'm not sure what your quotes from ultra-extremists are supposed to prove about Sarah.
You can find extremists on both sides. Most people don't agree with the extremists. That's why we call them extremists.
Moz: I may be wrong, but it seems you look upon Sarah Palin as one of your 'heroes'.
That's not too surprising, as many people in America (56 million at last count) are utterly confused regarding issues of ethics and morals, right and wrong, common sense and reality - and guess what? They think highly of her, too.
As we all know, rightwing-extremists are intellectually dishonest, and so is Sarah Palin.
Some people would say that she isn't really an intellectual and so can't be deemed 'intellectually dishonest'. I say, she does what she can with what she has.
Some people also say that rightwing-extremists purposefully lack critical reading and thinking skills and 'play dumb' because of their basic tenet of intellectual dishonesty. I wouldn't argue with that. The rightwing propagandists lined up on FOX News for days announcing their ignorance of the "Bush Doctrine" so that Sarah wouldn't look so dumb after she so skillfully mangled her answer with Charlie Gibson. Even Bill O'Lielly lied (imagine that) on David Letterman claiming he didn't know either. It was funny how many video clips came out the very next day showing him describing exactly what the Bush Doctrine was months and years before that. I thought it was cute how all the little goose-steppers came to the cheerleader's defense. Well, really, the Republican Party's defense at that point.
Now, I'm willing to give you the 'benefit of the doubt', Moz, and assume you simply 'missed' the link I offered on "The Dangers of Abstinence-only Education" (which is only one source of many on the subject):
http://www.ppacca.org/site/pp.asp?c=kuJYJeO4F&b=139536
Abstinence-only Education is a rightwing-extremist view which Sarah Palin claims to share and which she has undoubtedly taught her children (and will probably teach her Down's Syndrome grandchild). If you think that is acceptable, Moz, then I proffer that you are also an extremist.
Just to help with any further confusion you may have, if you think that Sarah Palin is basically an 'honest' person, Andrew Sullivan debunks that myth here (a simple internet search of 'Sarah Palin Lies' will easily pick up where Andrew leaves off):
http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/09/the-lies-and-li.html
As before, the hypocrisy of rightwing-extremism can be seen here:

And just for fun, here's what a professor said of Palin's performance in the debate:
"Palin’s answers reminded me of when I was teaching environmental science at the university, I had a student turn in a test with a lot of blanks where the answers were supposed to be.
On the back of the test the student wrote: “I don’t know the answers to those questions, but here are some I do know.” And she wrote her own questions and answered them…..mostly wrong, I might add."
well palin is really a mystery from day 1 .
